Greater Swiss Mountain Dog
The Greater Swiss Mountain Dog is a large, immensely strong worker famous for a dense coat of striking black, red, and white markings. Dependable and faithful Swissies earned their feed as herders, drafters, and all-around pasture dogs.
Greater than what? Well, standing as high as 28.5 inches and weighing as much as a midsize human, a Greater Swiss is great. Swissies are immensely strong, yet agile enough to move a flock across the sloping foot of a mountain. The coat is a striking tricolor, black, red, and white. The head and muzzle typically have a white marking (the "blaze"), setting off a sweet expression. Several big mountain-dog breeds are described as majestic, but Swissies practically invented the word.
They are affectionate towards their family, often described as "lovey dovey". Good with young children and good with other dogs. They love to be outside, and do not mind colder weather. They are the perfect farm and family dog. They treat what is yours as theirs which makes them great watch dogs. They love to be given activities and jobs. Swissies are eager to learn and highly trainable.
Bernese Mountain Dog
The Bernese Mountain Dog is slightly smaller than it's relative the Greater Swiss Mountain Dog. The Bernese Mountain dog is also historically known for working the farm. Even though they are slightly smaller than the GSMD, they are also known for their great strength. They have a longer coat than the GSMD but their tri-color markings are the same as the GSMD.
The traits that make the Bernese Mountain Dog such a good farm helper are the same that make them a confident and friendly companion. While they like to have a job to do and daily exercise, at home they'll be happy to relax. They are a calm and affectionate family companion at work, play or just hanging out.

There is a variety in coats when it comes to the Bernedoodle. The curliness of the coat can vary as well as the markings of the coat. Some Bernedoodles have the tri-color markings resembling the Bernese Mountain dog, some are marked black and white, and some are marked almost solid black. They do all maintain the low-shedding coat of the poodle.
